RE: Grade 3-5 CT STATE SCIENCE EMBEDDED TASK KITS
Enclosed
find complete sets of the required CT State Science Embedded Task Kits for:
Grade
3: Soggy Paper (groups of 4)
Grade
4: Go With The Flow (groups of 4)
Grade
5: Catch It! (groups of 4).
You
should have a teachers guide for each Grade 3-5 class, 7 sets of materials, and
25 student packets.
As
you know, the CMT Science Test to be given in 2008 will be asking students
questions based on these tasks. Each guide has very detailed and specific
instructions about the philosophy and expectations for inquiry as modeled in
the task. Each task has two parts: a guided inquiry lesson, and a more
open-ended lesson. The tasks should be able to be completed within 3-5 class
sessions.
Grade
3-5 teachers are expected to conduct the task with their students before the
end of the school year. Modifications for reading level, language and group
skills can be made as needed, however it is important that all students engage
in as authentic an experience as possible.
As a
further reminder, all STC Kits, including ones delivered in previous years, are
to be ready for pickup on June 14th.
As
we continue to modify curriculum, and adjust to the state standards and
expectations, I appreciate your continued support for science initiatives on
behalf of all New Haven students.
If
there are issues with kit materials, or STC kits, please contact Cindy Viera at
the Science Resource Center (x2818) or myself.
Thank
you.
